Happy the Man

Happy the Man was an American progressive rock band from the 1970's specializing in instrumental tracks with complex time signatures. They were one of the finest 70's American prog bands. Completely out of the american standards, Happy the Man combined lush melodies, great complex interplay and a slightly jazzy touch with occasional vocals. Their first two albums, the self titled Happy the Man and Crafty Hands (almost entirely instrumental) are classic albums of the highest order. Read more here.

Family

Family were an English rock band that formed in late 1966 and disbanded in October 1973. Their style has been characterised as progressive rock, although their sound often explored other genres, incorporating elements of styles such as folk, psychedelia, acid, jazz fusion and rock and roll. Read more here. 

Yezda Urfa

Yezda Urfa was an American progressive rock band founded in the fall of 1973. The name Yezda Urfa comes from Yazd, the capital of Yazd Province in Iran and Urfa, a city  in south-eastern Turkey. The band recorded two albums before breaking up in the spring of 1981. They blend influences from Yes and Gentle Giant into wonderful, fast-paced, high-energy progressive rock. Read more here.

Gentle Giant in Concert: German TV live 1974

In 1974 Christopher Nupen, the celebrated classical music director, invited the band to record this concert in a Brussels film studio to be broadcasted as a "Sunday Concert" on German TV station ZDF. Gentle Giant's virtuosic live act is documented in this concert which is contained, among other things, in the Giant on the Box DVD released in 2004. Read more here.

Artcane

Artcane was a mainly instrumental French progressive rock band. Very little is known about this four-piece set who released one album on Philips label at the tail end of prog's golden age and then disappeared from the map. Read more here. 

Steve Hackett

Stephen Richard Hackett is a British singer-songwriter and guitarist. He gained prominence as a member of the British progressive rock group Genesis which he joined in 1970 and left in 1977 to pursue a solo career.  His body of work has encompassed many styles, such as progressive rock, world music, classical and pop. Read more here.

Gentle Giant

The term eclectic in the context of progressive rock describes a summation of elements from various musical sources, and the influences and career paths of bands that take from a wide range of genres or styles. While progressive music can be, in a larger sense, eclectic, the Eclectic Prog term is specially meant to reference bands that trespass the boundaries of established Progressive Rock genres or that blend many influences. Read more here. 

Gentle Giant

Gentle Giant were a British progressive rock band active between 1970 and 1980. The band is known as the paradigmatic progressive rock band. With an uncomparable musicianship, they went as far as no one ever did into unexplored grounds in the progressive music. The band was known for the complexity and sophistication of its music and for the varied musical skills of its members. All of the band members, except the first two drummers, were multi-instrumentalists. Gentle Giant was able to come across the 70's maintaining an outstanding level on their music, altering their style over the years and keeping the quality as only a few bands were able to do. Read more here.

King Crimson

King Crimson are a rock band founded in London in 1968 by members from western England. Widely recognised as a foundational progressive rock group, the band have incorporated diverse influences and instrumentation during their history (including jazz and folk music, classical and experimental music, psychedelic rock, hard rock and heavy metal, New Wave, gamelan, electronica and drum and bass). They have been influential on many contemporary musical artists and have gained a large following, despite garnering little radio or music video airplay. Read more here.
